This lot, A MARBLE CONSIGNMENT, consists of a 1-1/2" (38 mm) hand made "Sulphide" (ca. 1850-1870) in Near Mint (8.4) condition with a few tiny surface moons/flakes, as well as general wear and pinpricking (examined, as always, under 20-power magnification with strong lighting). It has two Bear figurines suspended within a clear base, an extremely rare occurrence, making this one of only a handful of double-figurine Sulphides known to exist. One of the bears is holding a pole, while the other (ahem) seems to be holding his wang (I'll let the viewer make up his or her own mind). The figurines are well detailed but set too far toward the front as viewed head-on (I assume centering two figurines would have been quite a chore for the glassworker). The pontil, which is ground with faceting, lies almost directly below the figurines.
