Fantastic early mourning American oil portrait of a girl ! Incredibly rare and unusual. Huge size : 42" x 35"
Oval shape. Oil on canvas. Excellent condition, considering.
This is the most beautiful and touchy memorial portrait I have ever seen. Sad and funny at the same time. The dog / lyon seems sad too. The girl's portrait it is painted with much professionalism, element that makes me believe that the painting has been commissioned by a "well to do" familly to an established artist wich unfortunately I wasn't able to identify. There is no signature. The photos don't do any justice to the painting. In person it has a certain museal quality about it, a sort of a "tired look". My camera cannot agree with oval shapes it seems. It distorts them.
CONDTION
The painting has been cleaned with a little water and a mild soap, otherwise is in 100% UNTOUCHED condition. It's been looked over with a "black light" to determine if there are any old or new restorations or touch-ups. There are none. The only flaws are two small areas with paint loss, less than 3 square mm in size and some cracks that can be easily fixed by an expert restorer, I have been told. Otherwise the condition it's excellent !
